Sergio Romo Retires A Giant Pitching For The Final Time

Sergio Romo retired as a San Francisco Giant just the way he wanted, pitching one final time for the team he helped to win three World Series championships and then calling it a career Monday night.

In a moment more special than he could have possibly imagined, the entertaining right-hander faced three Oakland batters in the seventh inning at Oracle Park in the exhibition finale for both clubs.

Jed Lowrie Retires After 14 MLB Seasons

Veteran infielder Jed Lowrie, an All-Star who had three separate stints with the Oakland Athletics during 14 MLB seasons, has officially retired, he told the San Francisco Chronicle on Thursday.

Lowrie, who hit .180 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 184 plate appearances last season, was released by the Athletics in August.

Sergio Romo Signs Deal To Retire With Giants

The San Francisco Giants have signed longtime reliever Sergio Romo, who will retire as a member of the team at the end of spring training.

Romo signed a minor league contract with an invite to major league spring training. He will retire March 27 during the Giants' final spring training game against the Oakland Athletics.

"The relationship that Giants fans have with their players is unique -- few exemplify that bond more than Sergio," Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said in a statement Saturday. "After all that he accomplished as a Giant from 2008 to 2016, including his huge contributions to the championship teams, it's a thrill to have him back in a San Francisco uniform."

Hunter Greene will be the Opening Day starter for the Cincinnati Reds.

The 23-year-old is getting the nod as he begins his second season in the majors"It means the world. It's a huge honor considering the history in Cincinnati," said Greene who went 5-13 in 24 starts during his rookie season. "It is a huge honor with the talent we have, Nick, Graham, Cessa (Luis)."
